Château Clarke

Château Clarke

The late Baron Edmond de Rothschild bought this property in 1973. Although the estate had had a substantial reputation since the 18th century, in the 1950s the vines were pulled out and the château demolished. It was Baron Edmond’s vision to revive it as a living, working vineyard. Between 1973 and 1978, following major drainage work, the vineyard returned to life and the 53 hectares were re-planted with 40% Cabernet Savignon and 60% Merlot. The wines are robust and chewy, with fruit and power. The high proportion of Merlot softens the naturally firm Listrac.
