The château’s 100 hectares are planted to 71% Cabernet Sauvignon 7% Cabernet Franc 20% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot with an average age of 40 years per vine. Low yields, hand harvesting and a rejection of any less than perfect fruit ensure only the best quality grapes even begin the process of becoming Château Lafite. Fermentation takes place in large wooden vats and a long maceration period of up to 25 days helps extract maximum colour and flavour components.
